I saw this movie in the theater when it first came out I had seen the LOTR trilogy. My impression then was that Peter Jackson had kind of gotten stuck in a groove and was reluctant to let it go. Since that time, I have learned of some disturbing information which makes any further rewatching of the Hobbit impossible for me, namely, the reports of animal cruelty which occurred during filming.
